A New Era In Missions

A New Era In Missions

This is a new era in world missions, one that requires fresh approaches to reaching the lost. No longer can we simply set up a church, invite people to come, and expect to reach a community with the gospel.

In our fast-paced, largely secular world, it’s more important than ever to go out to where the people are living and working, to enter their world in an authentic way. This is what Encompass’ Transformation Works Network is all about—people intentionally living out their faith in word and deed, using their talents to fulfill a need in the community and provide a platform for sharing the gospel.

Members of the Transformation Works Network engage their communities in the areas of business, education, healthcare, and justice for the purpose of transforming lives through gospel witness. Whether it’s through a coffee shop in Bangkok, an Alpine Lodge in Japan, a conference center in France, or a clinic in Chad, Transformation Works Network members are strategic and passionate about using their vocation to spread the love of Jesus.

Members do this by building authentic relationships, being transparent in their intentions, and living compelling lives that make non-Christians ask what’s different about them.

Director Jason Weimer  describes the organic nature of the Transformation Works Network approach: “Network members, in many ways, are the first engagers of culture and community.” Natural bridges are built between Christians and their non-believing neighbors as members identify a need in their community and find a way to meet it. A safe space is created, where honest questions can be asked in the context of genuine relationships, while at the same time a felt need is being met. It’s about engaging the whole person, seeing them as a unique individual of immense value.

Not only is the Transformation Works Network a strategic way to reach people who may never set foot in a church, it also allows members to use the full range of their talents. Expertise in leading a ropes course becomes an opportunity to impact guests at the Northstar Alpine Lodge in Japan. The ability to brew the perfect cup of coffee and run a small business creates the opportunity to have meaningful conversation with people from all walks of life at a coffee shop in Southeast Asia. Market research and accounting skills help build a cashmere business in Central Asia.

Business ventures like these need support, and that is what the Transformation Works Network provides. Jason measures the success of the movement by whether “all network members are continually investing their talents, skills, and expertise in order for other networks and their members to have access.” Members are able to share opportunities and ideas with one another as well as access strategists, consultants, and experienced leaders in their field.
