Operation Smoky Mountain Christmas Project

Among the many wildfires in the Southeast region of the United States this year, none have been as destructive as the Gatlinburg, TN fire.

On November 29, 2016, thousands of people were evacuated from the city and surrounding areas. Sadly, some deaths and injuries were reported. Though authorities are unable to measure the full devastation of the fire, Tennessee has not seen anything like this in over 100 years. Many families and businesses have lost nearly everything, except for the clothes on their backs.

To help bring restoration to this community, the Encompass Crisis Response Network and the FGBC have partnered with a church planting ministry called SEEDnet. This ministry had hoped to break ground through church planting in the city of Gatlinburg, TN just before the forest fires began. Together, the team has developed a plan they are calling Operation Smoky Mountain Christmas.

Since the Red Cross and other relief organizations are sufficiently caring for the primary needs of the community with food and shelter, the decision has been made to provide these families with Christmas gifts. Many of these families do not have presents for their children due to this tragic event. So it would be a huge blessing to deploy a SEEDnet team to distribute gifts to families who are currently living in shelters. Christmas dinners could be distributed as well.

Would you consider teaming up with us in blessing the greater-Gatlinburg community by joining the Operation Smoky Mountain Christmas Project?
