Death Anniversaries
Thursday, 25 April 2013 06:19

Ted Ruiz reports on a death anniversary, which in the Philippines are just as important as Birthdays.

Tiring (tee-RING) is a fairly new believer in Pamplona GBC, Bicol. Her husband has been dead two years and for the first 2 Death Anniversaries she celebrated them the way that most Catholic Filipinos do.

The praying person looks at a special book with a picture of the deceased person. There is a lighted candle in front of this praying person, who prays fervently that the deceased person’s soul may one day enter Heaven.

But this year, parting from the traditions, Tiring wanted a “Thanksgiving celebration” instead.

A warm reception of cheers and singing by the workers and missionaries greeted her. Wow, what a welcome.
