Roy Snyder attends Missions Reunion

Roy Snyder - some years ago Roy Snyder - some years ago
Roy and Ruth Snyder were missionaries in Africa from 1949-1984. What a team they made. They served as host and hostess in the mission guest facilities in Bangui for many years. Their friendliness, spirit of servanthood and fantastic knowledge of where to find the needed item on the guests' shopping lists made them favorite people for missionaries and guests from many missions and nationalities.

Roy Snyder reports below on a recent highlight of this year when he attended the Congo Missionary Reunion, which included missionaries from the Covenant and Evangelical Free missions in Congo, as well as other service organizations, such as Missionary Aviation Fellowship. He writes, "I returned last evening from the Congo Missionary Reunion. What a fantastic time! I traveled with John and Margie Fairweather, former MAF pilot who now live in Indianapolis. It was an 8 hour trip to northeastern Wisconsin at a beautiful Christian camp, deep in the woods.

"I was in a cabin with four other widowers. During the days we did lots of singing, some in English and some in Lingala. When they sang in Lingala, I sang some in Sango. I spoke Monday evening and they played my CD in which I sing all four parts of "He the Pearly Gates Will Open". This song was translated from Swedish. So it was a sing along. It seemed that there was a 100 voice choir behind me. What times of nostalgia when each afternoon there was picture showing of past incidents, people and places. Tuesday evening they had a Memorial Service for those who had gone to be with the Lord during the past two years, and they included Ruth. They wanted me to know that I am considered one of them. I felt that way the whole time there.

"122 people were registered for the Reunion. I have five guest books which contain signatures of people who stayed at the Bangui Guest House from 1964 to 1982. I took along the 5th Guest Book because it wasn't quite full. Close to 100 people signed the book during the days of the reunion. Dr. Will Norton spoke Sunday evening for an hour and a half. He arrived in Congo in 1940, the year I graduated from High School. After a few terms, he returned to the States to get a doctor's degree. He was president of Trinity Seminary and also taught at the Wheaton School of Theology. He's still sharp at 95. Thank you for your prayers as the Lord answered in many ways. "

Thank you, Roy. You are highly esteemed by the GBIM family.
