There is still great need for gifts for Haitian relief. GBIM is forwarding relief funds through Convoy of Hope, a mission which is already established in Haiti. Convoy of Hope has staff on the ground in Haiti. They are working to expedite the shipment of containers of food, water, medical and sanitation supplies as quickly as possible. As a reference point, in a disaster response one container can usually serve around 12,000 people. This number can fluctuate greatly depending on the contents and the size of the container. The primary expense they need assistance with is shipping the containers; this usually runs somewhere in the ballpark of $10,000.
There are also security issues. They can't deploy distribution teams without organized, armed security. This is standard protocol in Haiti on a normal day, let alone in the aftermath of this tragedy.
