Letter from Ted Ruiz follows:
**FLOODING !!!! FLOODING !!!!
PRAYER: Typhoon “Fung-Wong” (Mario) is heading for Ilocos Norte today. It’s strong, not severe, BUT……
-PROBLEM #1= This Typhoon is dragging lots of clouds & Monsoon Rains behind it. (Monsoon Rains= Days & days of constant rain).
-PROBLEM #2= The ground was already soaked from heavy rains 4 & 5 days ago.
-Constant rains + already-soaked ground= lots of flooding!
Here’s some reports. PLEASE PRAY! Thanks!.........
*1)---Marikina GBC, Manila:
-Last night the heavy rains began in Metro Manila.
-Many from MarikinaGBC live along the Marikina river.
-5 years ago (2009 “Ondoy” Flood), a flood caused them to evacuate.
-The 2009 level reached the 3rd floor of some houses. Many died.
-Pastor Franco (His relatives have a house along the river) reports:
-9:00am= water was up to his waist inside the house.
-1:00pm= was up to his chest.
-4:00pm= (at this writing) it is now up to the neck— 4 feet!!!
-He is concerned for the safety of the children of the house.
-Franco will probably evacuate them all to higher ground, BUT the strong water current will not let him!
-For now, they have all climbed up to the 2nd Floor, which is really just a large attic.
-We have no way of helping them right now---roads in between are flooded!!!
-Rey Paz reports that rains have not stopped for 2 days and rains are expected to continue through Sunday.
-At this writing, the Typhoon has not yet made landfall there.
-He suspects that by Sunday, flooding damage will be severe.
*3)---San Miguel Island, Bicol:
-Digo reports that they’ve had heavy rains for 2 days.
-The ocean waves have yet reached their houses.
-Rains are subsiding, but now have strong winds. All are safe.
-Cris reports 2 days of constant raining. Windy now.
-Crops are flooded, so probably will have damage.
-Flooding in places, but not serious overall.
-Cris’ house & ministry center are full of leaks.
*5)---Sumulong GBC, Manila:
-Hernani reports there’s lots of rain BOTH outside AND inside their house!
-Allan says the ministry center’s roof is damaged and leaking badly!
-In Allan’s house, there’s water up to his knees…and very muddy!
-Lots of damage, but all are safe so far!
-This area is farther south.
-Judy, Olive report—rained earlier, some sun now. All are fine.
*7)---Ted & Viv:
-We live on “higher ground” now; unlike 5 years ago.
-We’re fine. We’re staying home today.
-Just wish we could help the others who are in greater need.
Your prayers are GREATLY appreciated!!!!!
Love, Ted, Viv
Encompass is partnering with Women of Grace USA this November to send a team to Cambodia! Women of Grace has recently selected a team of nine women from Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania for this short-term trip. The team will be helping with English classes and providing encouragement for the wives of our ministry partners there. Pray for our team that they would be willing and able to pour themselves out in love for those they will minister to, and that Christ would be made much of through their interactions there.
Leaders of the Japanese returnee ministry in Greater Los Angeles met on Saturday, September 13 in Long Beach, CA to plan for the next year.
After breakfast, they met via Skype with ministry partners, Kuni Sano, in his coffee shop in Tokyo, Japan, along with Julio and Joanne Marín, and their children, Julian and Juni. The Marín family plans to relocate soon from Florida to Southern California to work with the ministry.
Phil Helfer, pastor of the Los Altos Grace Brethren Church, Long Beach, encouraged the group to keep planting seeds, noting that God is at work in Japan. “God is obviously wanting to do something here,” he said. “Maybe it is part of the bigger plan of God doing something there.”Continue...
Please pray for Dick Conover, our Winona Lake Ministry Partner who has been faithfully archiving photos and slides for Encompass for over 10 years. He has a history of heart related health issues and found out earlier this week that one of the main arteries to his heart is 100% blocked. He will be having bypass surgery (up to 5 bypasses) as soon as they can clear all the blood thinners out of his system. He has to remain hospitalized before the surgery to be continually monitored.
Please pray for Dick, his wife Betty, daughters Tammie and Terry and all their family members.Continue...
We are excited to be partnering with Grace College to help send students on GO Encounter Trips to Japan, France, Ireland, Central Aisa, and Atlanta. Here is a video about the GO Encounter Trips. Would you join us in praying for the teams going out this year?
We received very encouraging news recently from some of our brothers and sisters in the CAR. Please remember to be in prayer for the ministry and our fellow believers there...

CORE Training is in full gear here at Encompass. The group has been learning many things about the ministry, vision, and history of Encompass World Partners. We've enjoyed digging into scripture to understand God's plan of salvation for The Nations and how deeply He cares for each people group. Being in Atlanta, we've been able to sample some of the great food from many different places around the world. Check out this picture of our group eating at the Chinatown Food Court!Continue...
